Free WordPress Theme “MEM Core” released

January 30th, 2012

WordPress is a popular, open-source, Content Management System built by hundreds of community volunteers around the world. Although, I’ve been developing WordPress Themes for years, I finally got around to releasing my first Theme for public use. I call it MEM Core which is short for “Middle Ear Media Core” because I plan on creating many child Themes for it. Each child Theme will inherit the functionality of MEM Core, and will modify, or add to it in different ways.

Let’s All Help Stop SOPA/PIPA

January 17th, 2012

I just wanted to do my part to show my support and help save the internet. What’s wrong with the internet? You may have heard about SOPA — the Stop Online Piracy Act or its sister bill in the Senate, PIPA — Protect IP Act, but do you really know what will happen if these bills (or any similar bills) pass? They will stifle free speech and innovation while making the internet less reliable and less secure. In other words, they will break the internet.

HTML5 To-do List

December 21st, 2011

The underlying programming languages that make the web what it is have been evolving over the years, but never have they been as powerful as they are now. While these new abilities are great, it’s not very practical to use them unless there is cross-browser support. Lucky for us the newer versions of most major browsers have decent support for these features. Also, fall-backs can be used to ensure a decent experience for people using older browsers.

Save The Wild UP

December 13th, 2011

Save The Wild UP is a non profit organization that operates in the Marquette area. Through public awareness and education they strive to protect the Upper Peninsula of Michigan from unsustainable development, degradation and dangerous contamination. Their original web site was designed in 2007 and had been modified numerous times since. It was in need of a major overhaul both in terms of user experience as well as content management. I redesigned their site to solve both of these issues.
